Bio
Dr. Larkin has over 24 years of university teaching experience during which she has taught a total of forty one different courses. Laurie received degrees from the University of Wisconsin (UW)-River Falls, UW-La Crosse, and her PhD from Purdue University. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Eastern Kentucky University teaching both undergraduate and graduate students in Public Health. Over the course of her career, Dr. Larkin has received eight different teaching awards including the 2014 College/University Teacher of the Year for the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD), and the 2015 College/University Teacher of the Year for Southern District SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) America.
Professionally, Laurie has served three terms as VP of Health for KAHPERD, was elected as a Health Division Delegate to the Representative Assembly for Southern District SHAPE America, and participated in three Southern District SHAPE America Leadership Conferences. She has served on the KAHPERD Awards Committee, assisted as a KAHPERD Journal article reviewer, and served as a member of the Division Board for Professional Preparation for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
Dr. Larkin is the co-author of a textbook, the Physiological Screening Test Manual for Eating Disorders/Disordered Eating Among Female Collegiate Athletes and five research articles published in the KAHPERD Journal, Journal of Athletic Training, and College Teaching. Laurie has eight national presentations, three district presentations, and 29 state presentations.
Community-wide, Laurie has served as a board member for The Pregnancy Help Center and the Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy. Dr. Larkin is also the Head Tennis Instructor at the University Club at Arlington for the past two summers. Currently, she volunteers as an instructor for the Wellspring Homeschool Co-op teaching health classes for high school kids. She is also the Head Tennis Instructor at the University Club at Arlington in the summers and is the assistant boys’ basketball and head girls basketball coach for the Madison Christian Academy during the school year. Laurie resides in Richmond, Kentucky with her husband, Jim, of 22 years and are proud parents of two boys.
