Dr. D. Gary Brown is currently a Professor at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in the Department of Environmental Health Science (EHS).  He is a certified industrial hygienist (CIH), registered sanitarian (RS) and a diplomate of the American Academy of sanitarians. 

Dr. Brown received the distinguished educational leader award in 2003 and 2005 from the EKU Student Government Association.  Dr. Brown received the EKU University Housing 2010 College of Health Sciences Golden Apple Award. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences.  He is actively involved with undergraduate student research. 

 Twice Dr. Brown has been President of the Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs.  Dr. Brown was a founding member of the National Environmental Health Diversity Recruitment Task Force (NEHDRTF), a task force centered on making diversity a positive reality within the Environmental Health workforce and of EKU’s Undergraduate research/scholarship day committee.  Dr. Brown was the National Environmental Health Association Technical Advisor Occupational Health and Safety.

Dr. Brown is on the staff of the OSHA Training Institute located at EKU.  He teaches twice annually at the University of West Indies Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health (OESH) program at Mona.  Dr. Brown has taught Principles of Industrial Hygiene to Trinidad and Tobago’s OSHA and for the International Labour Organization in Jamaica and Trinidad.  Along with Dr. Harvey he developed Jumeira University in Dubai’s EHS BS program.  Dr. Brown has provided training in China for Chinese corporations.

Dr. Brown has over 25 years’ experience in the field of environmental/ occupational health and safety spanning both academic and practical fields in the United States and Internationally.  Dr. Brown still provides consulting for government and private entities.  Prior to arriving in Eastern Kentucky, he had over 10 years professional experience in the environmental, industrial hygiene and safety arenas.

Dr. Brown is extremely interested in the promotion of the field of environmental health and increasing the number of EHS majors nationally.
